McDonald’s Ukraine announces cage-free commitment
A major step forward for hens in Ukraine: McDonald’s Ukraine has announced that it is now 100% cage-free following discussions with Project 1882. The commitment means that all eggs used across McDonald’s more than 120 restaurants in Ukraine now come from cage-free systems instead of hens confined in cages. It is a significant milestone in a country where around 98% of the egg-laying hens are still kept in cages.
65,000 signatures delivered to Swedish parliament calling for ban on Frankenchickens
Today, Project 1882 delivered more than 65,000 signatures to Members of the Swedish Parliament, calling for a national ban on Frankenchickens. The handover took place together with a protest for the chickens outside the Swedish Parliament.
Sweden to ban fur farming – “At last!”
The Swedish inquiry on fur farming was published today, and it contains a clear proposal on how a ban should be introduced in Sweden. Project 1882 welcomes this development and urges the government to bring forward the legislation without delay.
EU legislation on dogs and cats approved by the European Parliament
The European Parliament has now adopted common EU rules on the welfare and traceability of dogs and cats. The decision marks a historic step forward for millions of animals – yet the legislation still leaves some animals without protection.

- Reduced consumption of chickens in Sweden
Statistics from the Swedish Board of Agriculture showed a decline in meat consumption. The number of animals killed has also decreased.
- Norway phases out Frankenchickens
In 2026, the Norwegian chicken industry took a historic step forward for animal welfare. Frankenchickens will be phased out, and the mass killing of newly hatched male chicks will stop.
